What is a Paediatric Dentist?
Paediatric dentist is the dentist who specializes in achieving and maintaining good oral health in children, adolescents and people with disabilities/special needs.
After completing the undergraduate studies in Dentistry, the paediatric dentist has been trained (2-3 years) in recognized University programs in Paediatric Dentistry. These programs exist in many countries including Greece (the duration of postgraduate studies in Greece, as in the rest of Europe, is 3 years).
The paediatric dentist deals with patient groups (children, adolescents, people with disabilities) that have particular characteristics as individuals and as dental patients. In addition to the specialized knowledge in the dental problems of these individuals, the paediatric dentist is trained in evolutionary psychology, acquires special knowledge for the development and maturation of these individuals and has unique knowledge and experience in the methods of achieving a collaborative patient. Thus, his education provides knowledge and experience in the promotion of the oral health of children, adolescents and people with disabilities eliminating anxiety and fear, in a pleasant environment.
